Field Notes 02 | Chiswick

Our Boxing Day stopover in London allowed for a festive dinner with friends and a quick 24 hours in the charming western London suburb of Chiswick. We visit friends here on every London trip but this was my first overnight stay.

We stayed at High Road House, a member of the Soho House group. Ideally situated on the Chiswick High Street close to all the pubs and High Street shops, The High Road House offers an amazing outpost of Cowshed and a pleasant brasserie. The hotel room was casually chic and loaded with plenty of Cowshed treats. The common areas, as to be expected from Soho House, are a perfect balance of modern cool and effortless comfort.

Although our short stay and the rainy London weather did not allow for it, Chiswick is a wonderful place to walk or ride a bike along the river Thames. The walking path on the river’s edge passes lovely 18th-century homes and quintessential historic pubs. A very pleasant way to pass an afternoon in London.

A short 15-minute cab ride from London Heathrow, Chiswick is the perfect spot to spend a quick layover or stay the night on your way into town.
